Our Governors
Our governors form the Local Governing Board (LGB) within Excalibur Academies Trust, the structure of which is published on our Multi-Academy Trust page. It is also available, along with further information, on Excalibur's website.
The role of the LGB is to work with the school to ensure we are providing the highest standards of teaching and learning. The LGB also works with the school to further our work within the local community. The Chair represents our school at the LGB Chair's Forum which reports to the Directors of Excalibur Academies Trust.
Our LGB is made up of representatives of the staff and parents. We have foundation governors (who represent the interests of our church status) as well as community governors.
The governors can be contacted via the clerk (Suzanne Hepworth): suzanne.hepworth@excalibur.org.uk
Welcome from Chair of Governors
My name is Mark Smith and I am proud to be the Chair of Governors at our wonderful school. I have been a governor for 3years and really enjoy this interaction with the school. It’s such a privilege to be able to work within the school and assist the great work that the teachers are doing with our children. I am originally from Cork in Ireland and I have lived in Chiseldon since 1999 with my wife and three children. I am a chemical engineer and have worked for the water research centre in Swindon since 1989 where I am currently the CEO. Each of my three children have attended Ogbourne school and the associated pre-school “Little Dragons” with my eldest son now in year 9 in St John’s Marlborough. I have a daughter in year 6 and a son in year 2 at Ogbourne.
As Chair of Governors, I lead the team in supporting the general environment and learning agenda at the school. As with any school, things change all the time and I meet regularly with the Principal to try to understand the issues and support the solutions. We have regular meetings which are formally minuted and more informal Discussion Meetings to develop our awareness of the school and help us to understand every aspect of school life. The governors oversee the development and implementation of school policies with a particular emphasis on child safeguarding as an area of real focus. As a CoE school, we actively encourage a Christian ethos in all our interactions and firmly believe in the schools core values of Love, Friendship, Integrity, Respect, Effort and Hope.
I think we have a very special school here at Ogbourne with a fantastic and dedicated teaching staff, a new Principal with lots of energy and ideas, an engaged PSA and a dedicated team of Governors. Our school is a safe and secure environment for the children to develop and learn in a Christian environment. And, of course, the stars of the show are our children who demonstrate the values we strive for on a daily basis.
