Our Creative Arts Curriculum - Art, Music, Design & Technology
Art & DT Intent, Implementation & Impact - 2022-23
Through Ogbourne’s curriculum and Christian values, we aim to develop children’s independence with a life-long love of learning. Our intention is to motivate pupils through an engaging curriculum that meets the needs of all where we develop children into skilled problem-solvers.
Through an appreciation of the work and influence of significant artists, crafts makers and designers, as well as the properties of a range of media and tools, we will teach our children the skills and knowledge they need to experiment, invest and create their own works of art, craft and design. They will be taught to use a range of materials but each year there will be a particular focus on mastering techniques in drawing, painting and sculpture. They will be taught to use their knowledge and understanding of the seven elements of art to think and talk critically, using the language of art, craft and design. Our children will be encouraged to work creatively, to be inspired by their own work and the work of others so that they want to learn more about themselves and the world of art, craft and design.

Music Intent, Implementation & Impact - 2022-23
Our Music Vision
At Ogbourne CofE Primary school, we recognise that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. Our high-quality music education will engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement.
Our Music Intent
Our Music intent is to nurture the natural curiosity of young children and instil a passion for learning about the world around them. Music is a powerful language and as such is used as a form of communication across the globe, in a vast expanse of cultures - it evokes emotion, creates memories, and ignites passion. Our intent is that children appreciate the language of music by learning about and appraising a variety of pieces of culturally diverse music from great composers which include festive pieces with words that inspire, communicate and educate.
Our Music Implementation
We will implement this intent through providing a classroom-based, participatory and inclusive approach to music learning through the Charanga scheme of learning. This will be achieved through a range of whole class, group and individual activities, where children explore sounds, listen actively, compose and perform. In lessons children learn to dissect music and understand how it is made, played, appreciated and analysed.
Our Music Impact
The Impact of Ogbourne's music curriculum: the engaging and practical nature of the curriculum will promote a love of music, singing and performing. Children are actively involved in using and developing their singing voices, using body percussion and whole body actions, and learning how to handle and play classroom instruments effectively to create and express their own and others' music. Children will know the musical notations and vocabulary, how it is applied, and be able to analyse and appreciate music.

Music Opportunities
All our children have a music education as part of the National Curriculum. All children learn to develop their listening, performing and composing skills; they all have an opportunity to take part in our annual performances: the Christmas Singalong, the Nativity, the music concert and our end of year production.
All junior children also learn to play the recorder. Y6 children learn the handbells during the Autumn Term with Mrs Gordon-Finlayson, a local enthusiast. We use the bells from the church and participate in their services.
In addition, we offer peripatetic lessons in brass, guitar, drums and piano for individuals / small groups of musicians. For this, there is a charge - see the Charging and Remissions Policy below.
