Our Computing & IT Curriculum - 2020-21
Our Computing & IT Intent
We believe it is important to prepare the children at Ogbourne to be confident and capable within a world that is increasingly shaped by technology and that children should develop the knowledge and understanding to enable them to use computing skills in everyday life. We aim to develop aspirational and resilient learners who are fluent in their understanding of computer science by teaching them how to use a range of programs where they are able to design, create and reflect upon their work.
At Ogbourne, we ensure our children are aware of the importance of internet safety, with a specific week dedicated to its importance in each year group across the terms. Due to this, our children have a great knowledge and understanding of how to stay safe online. Our aim is for our children to leave our school with a developing digital literacy and an excellent knowledge of e-safety, preparing them for their future in our modern society.
Computing has a place in each subject throughout the whole-school curriculum: researching information in literacy, geography, history and science; collecting data from apparatus in science; even creating music with online music applications; the use of multimedia programs when word processing or presenting work. Coding concepts are also introduced through practical, digital applications across key stages.
We believe that regular exposure to a wide range of contextualised activities in computing is key to fostering a life-long love of learning and functional computer literacy. Children engage with real world examples, which helps to develop creativity and flexible thinking that will be essential to success in further education and future employment.
